TMNT: Welcome Home

When April heard Splinter say that she needs to stay in the sewers with him, the turtles, and Ember…she was shocked and upset.  Donatello was excited…but April was mad.  After a bit, Leonardo explained that it was the best then April agreed so when the Kraang and Shredder were defeated, she could get her normal life back.

Then April thought of something. “Where am I gonna sleep? Ember is already on the extra bed in Donnie’s room.”

“Actually…” Donnie began “my brothers and I have been working on something. Follow me.”

He started walking down the hall and everyone followed. They stopped in front of the door to the storage room. Donnie got a key out and unlocked it.

“We’ve been working on this for a while now and we wanted it to be a surprise for Ember…” Donnie explained “but seeing as how April is gonna stay with us now, I figure that it’s time to show everyone the surprise.”

He opened the door to show the room painted fuchsia pink with a bed and a comforter, some lighting material, and a couple of decorations here and there.

“Wow, this is great guys…thank you” Ember said.

“You’re welcome” Leo said. “It was Mikey’s idea.”

“Yeah…I just figured that you needed a room to yourself” Michelangelo said.

Ember hugged Mikey then kissed his cheek. “Thank you, Mikey.”

“No problemo” Mikey said blushing.

“Well, now that April is staying with us…” Splinter began “would you object to sharing the room with her, Ember?”

“Not at all, sensei” Ember replied. “I would actually enjoy sharing this room with April very much.”

“Thank you, Ember” April said.

“You’re welcome” Ember replied.

“Now, someone must go with April to collect her things” Splinter explained.

“I’ll go” Donnie volunteered.

“Thanks, Donnie…but what should I tell my aunt?” April asked. “I can’t just leave without saying anything.”

“Good point” Raphael said. “It’s not like you can just say ‘Hey, I’m gonna stay with four mutant turtles and a mutant rat.’”

“Exactly” April said.

Everyone thought for a moment before Ember got an idea.

“Maybe we could send a formal letter” Ember explained. “It could tell her aunt that she’s been accepted into a boarding school for girls. Now I know boarding school probably isn’t the best idea, but it’s not like you’re actually going there.”

“That’s a great idea, Ember” April said.

“And this way, the Kraang and Shredder won’t be able to track it” Donnie explained. “But we need to find a real boarding school for girls so if your aunt tries to research it, it’ll be there.”

“Yes” Splinter said. “This will work out perfectly. Donatello, I want you to get to work on it right away.”

“Hai, sensei” Donnie said as he rushed to his lab.

“You and Donnie can go get your things once he finishes the letter” Leo explained to April. “That way, you can hand it to her when she asks what you’re doing.”

“Right” April said. “Thanks guys.”

Pretty soon, Donnie finished the letter. When he did, he and April headed over to her apartment. She was wearing a huge coat so she wouldn’t be noticed by any Foot Clan or Kraang.

They got there and April went in through the front door. She went up to her aunt and handed her the letter.

“What’s this?” her aunt asked.

“It’s a letter of acceptance to a boarding school” April explained. “I got accepted and they want me to come as soon as I can.”

“Okay…” her aunt replied. “This is sudden.”

“I know. I got it when I checked the mail today.”

“Alright then, do you want me to help you pack?”

“Nah…I can take care of that” April replied. “I just wanted to let you know.”

“Oh, okay” her aunt replied.

April went to her room and closed the door. Then she went to the window and let Donnie in.

“Okay, she bought it” April said. “I’ll grab my personal belongings and clothes. You think you can handle the bed?”

“No problem” Donnie replied.

“Thanks” April said. “You’re a big help.” She kissed his cheek, which made him blush like crazy. Pretty soon, he composed himself and started on the bed.

After a good while, they were done.

“I’ll meet you back at the lair” Donnie said as he went out the window. April closed it and went to the living room.

“Okay, I’m gone” April said. Her aunt came up to her and gave her a big hug.

“Have a great time, sweetie” her aunt said. “Keep in contact.”

“I’ll try…” April said a bit nervously “they’re pretty big on not having cell phones there.”

“Alright…I’ll miss you” her aunt said.

“I’ll miss you, too” April replied.

With that, she walked out the door after waving goodbye one final time.

…

April had found Donnie at a manhole cover waiting for her so he could help.

“Thanks for waiting for me” April said.

“You’re welcome” Donnie replied. “Shall we, then?”

“Why not?” April asked.

…

When they got to the lair, Raph, Mikey, Leo, and Ember jumped out and yelled “Surprise! Welcome home!”

April was totally shocked. “Oh…wow…” was all she could say.

“What do you think, April?” Donnie asked.

“I love it…thank you, guys” April replied.

“Don’t thank us” Raph said. “It was Ember’s idea.”

“Yeah…I just wanted you to feel welcome…you know…” Ember said.

“Thank you, Ember” April said as she hugged her. Ember hugged her back.

“You’re quite welcome, April” Ember replied.

“Now, let us help you settle in” Splinter said.

Everyone agreed and helped April carry her things to hers and Ember’s new room. They helped set up April’s bed and put her clothes away and everything.

It was getting late and it was time for the turtles to go to bed. They said their good nights to Ember and April and left their new room.

“Ember…I can’t thank you enough for letting me stay in your new room with you” April said.

“My pleasure” Ember replied. “Besides…you’re like a sister to me, now.”

“Awww, Ember” April said. “That means a lot to me. And…honestly…you’re like the sister I never had.”

“Thank you” Ember said.

They both hugged each other and stayed like that for a few moments before crawling into their beds and just talking.

After a while, Ember had decided to go to sleep. April stayed up, just staring at the ceiling.

She had a lot on her mind…but she was glad that she had friends like the turtles and Ember to help her through these times. She was really thankful that she at least had another girl to talk to…someone who understood her pain and sorrow. April knew from then on, she and Ember would be the best of friends and she really felt welcome just being around Ember. After a while, she finally dozed off and it was a tranquil night in the turtles’, Splinter’s, Ember’s…and April’s home.
